The innovative Office of Rail within MDOT has an exciting and unique vacancy, providing full time benefits and work life balance. We are looking for an innovative, self-starter who thrives in a diverse and cross discipline work environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for design and development of plans. This position will be instrumental in the design, maintenance, and construction of all aspects in the railroad industry, involving both freight and passenger service. This position contributes to the 665 miles of state-owned railroad including design, maintenance, inspection, real estate, trespass, and opportunities to be involved in the innovative asset management program within the department. This position will provide a broad range of knowledge and experience base while gaining both office and field experience within the railroad industry.

Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.
Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.
Alternate Education and Experience
Transportation Engineer 9 - 12
Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
Additional Requirements and Information
Possession of a valid drivers license is required.
