DEPARTMENT
The Direct Assessment and Corrosion Control department is part of the System Integrity Program. The department is responsible for the cathodic protection of the Transmission and Storage (T&S) pipeline system as well as corrosion assessments of our non-piggable transmission assets. The T&S system consists of approximately 1800 miles of transmission, storage, Metering and Regulation and Compression pipelines. Additionally, the team assesses approximately 600 miles of gas Transmission Operated by Distribution (TOD) pipelines.
JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBLITIES
Consumers Energy is seeking three (3) Sr. Engineering Technical Analyst Leads:
- The External Corrosion Direct Assessment Lead is responsible for managing and performing work needed to assess our non-piggable transmission assets. Analysis of direct assessments which includes approximately 600 miles of gas TOD pipelines and associated city gates.
- The Internal Corrosion Lead is responsible for managing and performing work needed to assess our transmission assets (T&S and TOD). Analysis of direct assessments which includes approximately 600 miles of gas TOD pipelines and monitoring for internal corrosion within the 1800 miles of T&S system.
- The Transmission Corrosion Control Lead is responsible for managing and performing work needed to cathodically protect our T&S assets. Analysis and monitoring of the corrosion control program which includes approximately 1800 miles of the T&S system.
Responsibilities for these roles include:
- Leading, training and developing department technicians and/or engineers
- Engineering analysis
- Manage a budget with multiyear planning
- Plan, schedule and manage system outages
- Maintain, develop and implement standards
- Preparation of contracts, selection of bidders, and bid evaluations
LOCATION
The Sr. Engineering Technical Analyst Lead roles are eligible for remote work or can be based in any of our Michigan locations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 8 years of related exempt engineering work experience
- NACE Cathodic Protection Certification(s), Direct Assessment certifications OR NACE Senior Internal Corrosion Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical field (STEM) preferred
- Strong leadership skills including supervisory practices and application
- Ability to analyze complex problems, recommend alternatives, and take corrective action
- Project Management skills to include the ability to lead multiple projects, resolve issues, and coordinate resources
- Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering technology concepts and principles
- Ability to meet and manage multiple deadlines, and conflicting priorities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal savvy
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Excel, SharePoint, etc.
HOURS & TRAVEL
- This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with approximately 80% of time spent in the office or specific field locations.
- Travel (approximately 20%) to in-state job sites and project meetings is required.
