Manager - Product Application Engineering
Job Description
United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Manager of Product Applications located at our Automotive Center in Troy, Ml. The position will develop and lead the activities of a product applications with non-automotive customers in industrial, military, heavy equipment and adjacent industries. The manager will lead the team in identifying future requirements based on market usage/application trends; evaluate, prioritize, and develop product and application opportunities; and successfully deploy these solutions at the customer. The manager will strategically coordinate these activates with the USS commercial team targeted at the customer to position USS for success.
Responsibilities include the following:
* Manage, develop, and prioritize the customer team to support product and applications development to initiate and complete design projects and to promote USS advanced products into customer applications.
* Support the investigation, identification and definition of new or enhanced products and/or revenue opportunities.
* Manage a structured process to evaluate and build business cases for new business opportunities and support the commercial funding process.
* Manage the implementation of future roadmap for grade/product development to direct research and development activities and lead trial activities of new products across all USS facilities.
* Work across U.S. Steel and with technical Joint Ventures, Research & Development and other partners to develop and refine product designs.
* Stay abreast customer specific issues, trends, and developments that are relevant for product development or evaluating product design opportunities.
* Serve as a technical representative for Sales in customer discussions.
* Work with Product Managers and commercial managers to assess how/if potential new product opportunities fit into the overall product strategy.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering or related field.
* At least 7 years of proven experience in industrial, construction, automotive or heavy equipment development.
* Proven track record of implementing products into customer applications with a focus on value creation.
* Minimum of 5 years experience in an engineering leadership, people management role, and technical project management.
* Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills are required, with the ability to work with various levels of customer and corporate management to ensure implementation.
* Ability to use and navigate common business software packages.
* Proven ability to develop innovative solutions.
