The School of Information (UMSI), a progressive, interdisciplinary, professional school--offering five academic programs, has an exciting opportunity for a Recruitment and Student Success Coordinator.
The Recruitment and Student Success Coordinator designs and implements recruitment, admissions, and academic success initiatives for UMSI new transfer students, transferring from an external institution. This position provides independent coordination and implementation of activities throughout the UMSI new transfer student experience including areas of recruiting and admissions, student success and student life. As the primary point of contact for prospective and current UMSI transfer students, this role will independently develop, implement, and evaluate recruitment and retention strategies while monitoring national, campus and school enrollment trends to support the transfer student population, demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
As a member of the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA), the Recruitment and Student Success Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Recruiting and Admissions and receives functional supervision from the Associate Director of Academic Programs and Student Life.

50% Recruiting and Admissions
- Work to build and maintain recruitment initiatives for the UMSI New Transfer Program, with a focus on providing opportunities for students from traditionally underrepresented and underserved communities to apply to the University of Michigan School of Information Bachelors of Science in Information (BSI) degree.
- Participate in strategic planning and direction setting for new transfer recruitment and admissions. Generate and execute ideas for recruitment marketing materials for new transfer students including online, social media, and print pieces, working with UMSI Marketing and Communications team. Represent the BSI program to prospective students and other individuals who support students in finding and navigating the undergraduate transfer application process and coaching on academic and career opportunities; this includes: families, counselors, advisors, and faculty.
- Serve as a key point of contact and liaison between UMSI and transfer institutions. Plan and participate in admitted student events and communications. Facilitate communication between admitted transfer students and appropriate UMSI or University resources.
- Serve as a primary liaison to the Office of Financial Aid for questions from prospective and newly admitted new transfer students.
- Lead the admissions processing for BSI New Transfer application, monitor enrollment trends and make enrollment projections for new transfer applicants. Contribute as a reviewer for applications, and manage the admissions review process.
45% Student Success and Retention
- Assist in the retention, persistence and graduation of UMSI new transfer students.
- Create, participate in and/or run student success programming and communications such as first semester experience workshop series, peer mentoring, study groups, and interventional communications.
- Serve as an advocate, coach, resource, and point of contact for BSI new transfer students working in close collaboration with Assistant Director of Academic Programs (BSI) and BSI academic advisor.
- Facilitate new transfer student initiatives for UMSI and UM such as the New Transfer Student Advisory Board and Transfer Student Appreciation Week in close collaboration with UMSI Student Life and campus partners.
- Coordinate new transfer student orientation and new student programming in collaboration with the UM Office of New Student Programs, UMSI Academic Programs and Student Life team, and UMSI Registrar and Student Services teams.
5% New Transfer Student Administration
- Serve as a key collaborator of the BSI Academic Program Committee Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) charge for transfer student programs and student success.
- Hire and train temporary staff in support of recruiting and retention work in the new transfer program.
- Maintain a process for monitoring new transfer students closely including tracking student progress from prospective students, to applicants, admits, and to BSI graduates. Collect, analyze and interpret student data, identify trends in the data, report out to appropriate constituents, and make data-informed decisions, while ensuring FERPA/FOIA compliance surrounding student data utilizing Business Objects and MPathways content.
- Maintain a working knowledge of emerging national trends and best practices in the areas of transfer students, retention, and academic achievement as it relates to student success.
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
- Minimum 2 years of increasing responsibility in a role requiring program management, working independently in an educational setting/context.
