Job Summary
Is responsible for the security of County-owned, operated and leased buildings and grounds. Supervises employees and subordinate supervisors patrolling buildings and grounds, providing emergency temporary first-aid assistance and first response firefighting services. Assists the Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security in coordinating and developing appropriate security procedures and systems for County buildings and property, and local ordinances for County-owned and operated property. Performs inspections of County buildings and operating departments to identify security, life safety, fire hazards and potential maintenance liabilities. May assist in fire investigations as they relate to County property. Is available on a 24-hr a day, seven days a week basis to respond to emergency incidents. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department-specific software to complete assignments.
Minimum Qualifications

b. Have had five (5) years of full-time experience as a police officer or in a security related field in a public or private security agency. At least two (2) years shall have been in a supervisory capacity. OR
2.a. Possess an Associate's Degree or sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university. Preferred major in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Law Enforcement or a closely related field; AND
b. Have had seven (7) years of full-time experience as a police officer or in a security related field in a public or private security agency. At least two (2) years shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
Possess a permit to carry a Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
NOTE: Employees without the required CPL at the time of application must obtain it by the end of the six month probationary period, at the employee's expense.
Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
Successfully complete a criminal history background investigation and have not been convicted of a violation of criminal law. (Criminal law generally includes all offenses except traffic law, conservation law, and liquor law. Conviction for a violation of criminal law is automatically disqualifying.)
Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.

Special Requirements
