ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate.
Completion of an AMA approved course in Radiologic Technology.
ARRT active registration. Registrations or Certifications held in another modality such as Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) is acceptable.
Additional approved education in the field of MRI imaging preferred but not required.
ORGANIZATION
Works under the direction of the MRI Coordinator and reports to the Radiology Sr Coordinator of Operations.
HUMAN RELATIONS
Must be able to work closely and competently with Radiologists and outside clients referring patients to the facility.
PROBLEM SOLVING
The MRI technologist provides scanning services and as has a high level of expertise in MRI systems and scanning procedures.
Applies principles of Magnetic safety and precautions.
Evaluates MR images for technical quality. Performs routine and specialized procedures under the direction of attending Radiologist. Exercises professional judgement in the performance of procedures.
Provides patient care essential to MRI scanning procedures. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiate life support measures. Must be familiar with the administration and hazards of contrast media and medication. Must recognize equipment difficulties and initiate steps to solve them.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in well lighted and clean surroundings.
At times, works under a basic pressure element.
Stands and walks most of the time, within the MRI Department, and periodically throughout the hospital.

Performs MRI imaging services without direct supervision.
Operates imaging equipment and ancillary equipment to complete the scanning process.
Position patients - immobilizing when necessary
Practices magnetic imaging safety and precautions.
Evaluates scanning images for technical and diagnostic quality.
Assumes responsibility for assigned areas and tasks.
Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during scanning procedure.
Practices aseptic techniques with necessary.
Administers IV contrast media and oral medication.
Assists in determining special requirements prior to magnetic scanning.
Initiates life support measures as required for patient. Requires certification in CPR technique.
Provides input for equipment and supply decisions.
Assumes responsibility for portions of the QA program.
Pursues ongoing education.
Controls inventory and acquisition of supplies for assigned area through established channels.
Instructs Radiology students and visitors in the operation of a Magnetic Imaging scanner.
Must be efficient in solving procedural problems at they deviate from normal and adapt when necessary.
Must use tact, diplomacy, and compassion when dealing with patients, visitors and other parties.
Makes judgments regarding priority of own work when high volume situations arise, maintaining overall established department priorities.
Is responsible for determining equipment malfunction and reporting same to supervisor and/or service engineer.
May work off shifts, weekends and be responsible for on-call responsibilities.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
