Completes hospital orientation if facility new hire. Healthstream requirements as outlined in department orientation must be achieved by deadlines.
Uses the nursing process to deliver nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in the Medical Procedure Room. Scope of care encompasses admission, intra-procedure, recovery and discharge of patients from all age groups.
Provides ongoing assessment of patients. Plans care and advocates for patients based on individual patient needs, clinical recommendations and established professional standards. Provides for patient privacy and confidentiality following HIPAA Guidelines.
Assists physicians during procedures according to established professional standards.
Maintains competencies in nursing skills as required by unit & hospital policy.
Demonstrates knowledge of equipment requirements for all procedures. Able to set-up, operate, troubleshoot and clean equipment according to established professional standards.
Promotes efficient operation of the department by performing support duties such as ordering supplies, restocking rooms and maintaining procedure rooms in a clean, orderly state.
Demonstrates the ability to accurately prioritize and organize work to provide safe, efficient patient care.
Demonstrates competency in IV therapy skills.
Completes point of care testing (urine pregnancy & blood sugar testing) in accordance with hospital policy.
Administers medications including IV sedation consistent with hospital policies.
Able to recognize and respond independently to emergency situations.
Recertifies BLS and ACLS certification biannually.
Demonstrates the ability to creatively adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
Orients and trains new personnel.
Serves as a mentor for other department nurses.
Evaluates own performance and that of peers and seeks opportunities for professional growth.
Works collaboratively with other healthcare disciplines and hospital departments to provide patient care services.
Participates in and supports shared governance activities including the development and achievement of unit goals.
Reserve pool RNs are exempt from ACLS certification, however they must be assigned to care for non-sedated patients or they must work under the direct supervision of an ACLS RN when caring for post procedure (sedated) patients.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
