Job Description
Job Summary
Leads and manages operational improvement projects related to patient safety and high reliability throughout the organization including both clinical and non-clinical areas to accomplish measurable business process improvements. Work assignments are typically more complex and larger in scope. Analyzes and measures the effectiveness of existing processes and develops sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable clinical and business process improvements. Collects and analyzes process and/or quality data to initiate, develop, and recommend operational practices and procedures that focus on enhanced safety, increased productivity, and reduced cost. May focus on either quality or process improvement.
Essential Functions
Supports complex improvement activities with advanced project plans outlining measurable deliverables and milestones.
Supports the operational leadership to ensure that services are provided in accordance with State and Federal regulations, organizational policies and procedures, medical staff bylaws and accreditation/compliance requirements.
Becomes an expert in action planning to prevent recurrence and assists clinical risk managers in the root cause analysis process.
Assists with development of processes that create and promote a learning environment.
Assists with development of appropriate indicators and measures of performance including tools and strategies for ongoing performance measurement.
Design the electronic health record functionality to proactively identify safety improvement opportunities. Facilitates the development of clinical decision support resources.
Becomes an expert with best practice guidelines related to patient safety and high reliability organizing.
Develops concurrent data collection, analysis, dashboard/visual management and reporting tools for feedback to teams/departments, leveraging operational processes for improvement. Identifies common cause from special cause variation and conducts rapid cycle improvement.
Educates teams on improvement strategies, methods, safety behaviors and reliability science.
Participates in the orientation and preceptorship for the new Improvement Specialist positions.
Qualifications
Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent field closely related to operational improvement, process improvement, project management, health care, case management, quality improvement, utilization management, business administration, regulatory affairs, compliance, clinical or related field
Preferred Master's Degree related field
5 years of relevant experience implementing successful, organization-wide operational improvement launches in the health care industry or closely related field, including extensive experience with process improvement, project management, change management, team leadership, education and training with process improvement tools and techniques, leadership, management, facilitation, clinical experience, or related experience Required
