What does a great Database Engineering, Sr. Advisor do?
The Database Engineering, Sr. Advisor will be providing large-scale IBM mainframe DB2 infrastructure technical and operational support in a highly technical global IBM mainframe environment
z/OS and ISV Systems Administration
As a Database Engineering, Sr. Advisor you will:
Conduct all aspects of DB2 z/OS database administration
Maintain USS objects for DB2 and related products
Create, modify, or maintain in-house written CLIST and REXX utilities
Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 operational support
Execute DDL to create, alter, delete database objects
Create database backups and perform database restores as required
Troubleshoot service problems; determine root cause, and provide resolutions
Monitor database subsystem performance and derive solutions for performance problems.
Provide guidance on good database design and implementation practices to Developers
Ensure compliance with database policies and procedures
Support and participate in Disaster Recovery exercises
Basic Skills for Consideration:
2 or 4 year college degree in Computer Science/Management or equivalent educational/work experience
5+ years of production support on DB2 z/OS, including Data Sharing
Must be very proficient in JCL, DDL, DML, SMP/E, TSO, REXX, and CLISTs
Must be proficient in CA and BMC DB2 tools and monitoring tools such as CA-Sysview and BMC Mainview
RACF, HSM, USS and Workload Manager as it relates to DB2 z/OS
Database Performance Monitoring and Tuning
Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills
Self-motivated, independent learner, reliable, dedicated, high-energy, problem solver with good people skills
Ability to work and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously
Able to translate and communicate technical-speak into well written and spoken non-technical terms
