The Outreach Coordinator position plays an important role in supporting and maintaining the School of Information’s (UMSI) innovative, holistic and proactive outreach model. Specifically, the outreach coordinator supports K-14 outreach programming designed to spread broader awareness of the field of Information Science and promote college-going culture - especially among students from lower socioeconomic and underrepresented backgrounds. Successful candidates must be able represent the School of Information positively through a caring,student-centered ethic. This part-time position reports to the Director of Inclusion, Equity, and Outreach, with responsibilities outlined below.

Administrative:
- Coordinate and assist with administration of community college and K-12 outreach programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate publicity and promotion of outreach messaging and events in collaboration with the UMSI Marketing and Communications office, including email, web and social media strategies.
- Facilitate outreach communications in order to increase awareness of opportunities and careers within the field of Information Science.
- Represent UMSI at cross-campus and externally sponsored outreach events.
- Maintain regular contact with outreach partners to identify opportunities for UMSI.
- Create interactive online and in-person presentations related to the field of information, communicating with outreach partners (established and prospective) to schedule events/activities and identify emerging opportunities.
- Provide information and guidance to prospective and current participants of outreach programs and activities.
- Provide referrals to UMSI and U-M admissions offices and contacts, other outreach programs and resources etc.
Event Planning:
- Plan and implement in-person and/or virtual outreach programming and events for K-14 students including the UMSI Community College Summer Institute. For in-person events work with relevant offices to schedule rooms, speakers, catering. Coordinate with all vendors, create timelines and itineraries. Ensure events are sustainable, ADA accessible as well as diverse, equitable and inclusive (i.e., in all aspects of event management).
- Coordinate UMSI focused campus visits for K-14 school groups, nonprofits and other organizations in collaboration with campus and community partners.
- Engage with UMSI faculty, staff, students, and alumni to encourage participation in outreach events, including classroom visits.
- Coordinate opportunities for UMSI students, faculty and staff to connect with K-14 students and summer programming.
Data & Reporting:
- Create and maintain a process for assessing effectiveness of UMSI outreach efforts, using metrics developed with the Director of Inclusion, Equity and Outreach.
- Create and manage a centralized database of UMSI outreach activities.
- Draft reports on outreach activities using program, participant and partner surveys in order to assess outreach impact and effectiveness.
Professional Development:
- Participate in outreach related councils and meetings organized by internal and external campus partners and regional/national organizations.
- Stay apprised of best practices related to college outreach.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in community or educational outreach, including coordinating events, or similar work environment.
- Experience with interactive presentations to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication styles to various audiences.
- Capacity to use independent judgment, diplomacy, and maintain.

- Advanced administrative and organizational skills, including prioritization, responsiveness, and attention to detail.

- Experience using web based platforms (such as Zoom and Canvas) for remote programs and events.
- Direct experience with pre-college and/or community college outreach programs.
- Experience with communication software such as Mailchimp.
- Familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
- Familiarity with the field of Information Science.
Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends. Days and times may have some flexibility and will be determined by the supervisor and successful candidate.
