Nursing on this unit takes on a holistic approach to quality care. Using clinical pathways and patient education and communication as guides, all aspects of patient care are exceptionally addressed by a total team of professionals. These positive and progressive attitudes translate into easy collaborative consults with physicians and all other team members.
We have an active Unit Based Council (Shared Governance) that is a part of the success of this unit. McLaren Northern Michigan has won numerous Health Grades awards for Joint Replacements, Orthopedics and Back Surgery, due in large measure to those team members who are providing care benchmarked to be in the top 5% in the nation for orthopedic care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Expertise: Collaborates with other members of the health care team to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized written plan of care based upon a physiological, psychosocial, spiritual assessment consistent with patient/significant other's changing needs & goals, utilizing the Clinical Practice Model (CPM) and the "Caring-Quality Model."
Knowledge: Seeks life-long learning through certification, advanced practice, higher education, and literature review.
Leadership/Credibility: Demonstrates leadership through sharing of knowledge, being a clinical resource, and professional role model.
Communication: Demonstrates effective communication through collegial relationships, SBAR, and interdisciplinary communication.
Productivity: Demonstrates enhanced time management skills and ability to assist others in order to contribute to overall performance of the team.
Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed by general and unit-specific competency-based objectives.
