This position reports to the CHRT Executive Director.
The five primary categories of work are to:
- Support the organization’s culture of compliance
- Conduct compliance reviews to substantiate organizational risk and develop corrective action plans
- Manage projects aimed at reducing compliance risk
- Develop and maintain an organizational compliance plan, with routine monitoring
- Develop and maintain educational materials and conduct compliance-related staff training
- Develop policies, guidelines, procedures, and processes to improve compliance and to foster an organizational culture that encourages open communication, without fear of retaliation
- Conduct comprehensive policy and process auditing to monitor for adherence to law and policy as it relates to health care data compliance.
- Develop and manage corrective action plans
- Establish an organizational compliance plan. Work with CHRT and MDC project leads and directors to identify compliance organizational priorities, goals, measures, and timelines.
- Manage plan and implementation of related initiatives, consistent with internal priorities and in coordination with Michigan Medicine Compliance.
- Review CHRT/MDC compliance plan and internal policies/procedures against federal regulations and standard practice to assess for gaps. Draft new documents to address gaps for review by leadership.
- Provide compliance reports to management and the Board
- Recommend issues for regular auditing.
- Serve as organizational point person for any Data Use Agreements (DUAs), Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and any associated service agreements, along with other relevant agreements, such as memoranda of understanding and other documentation necessary for project implementation and organizational risk-management and compliance. Maintain records related to data sharing.
- Maintain proficiency in applicable regulations, standards, guidelines and trends in health law.
- Develop training aids and lead training initiatives.
- Manage special projects and assist with completing work plan objectives as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in health policy, healthcare, healthcare administration, other related field or equivalent combination of education
- 3+ years of relevant work experience as an auditor or equivalent project management / operational health care experience.
- Experience working in health care – data compliance, data use and access, and HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to recognize, understand, and reduce compliance risks.
- Robust report writing skills,
- Strong project management and organizational skills,
- Proficient at interpreting legal statues, regulations, and internal policies and applying these rules to situations,
- Ability to work well in teams,
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with shifting priorities,
- Experienced with independently managing projects to conclusion.
- Law degree or advanced degree in health policy, healthcare, or other related field
- Experience in health care.
