Position Title: RN Supervisor
Position Summary:
Oversee operations of an ambulatory care department; supervises employees directly and is responsible for solving most of the problems arising for assigned clinical team. Supervises and evaluates of clinical care team in collaboration with Practice Leader, including but not limited to staff development, daily staff assignment of patient care, ensuring adequate equipment and supplies inventory control, quality assessment and improvement, customer service strategies, assistance with performance evaluations, implementing Mercy Health Saint Mary's operational plans, and intra- and inter-departmental communication as well as liaison with medical staff and sales representatives. Follows and supports Mercy Health Saint Mary's professional nursing standards of care and Professional Practice Model and Shared Governance Structure and Processes. Direct reports include Registered Nurses and clinical support staff in assigned practice.
What the RN Supervisor will need:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Licensed Registered Nurse in state of Michigan
Three years nursing experience for similar patient populations. Progressive experience in health care including involvement in direct patient care, educating staff, supervising personnel and problem solving of unit or organizational issues.
Ability to identify improvement in clinical operations and implement change and willingness to challenge established ways of doing things in a constructive way.
Ability to lead, mentor and develop staff. Exemplifies a strong, positive attitude toward internal and external customers and continuous service improvement.
Analytical ability to define unit or service procedures, to independently oversee the application of methods, guides and processes, to apply sound judgment in choosing proper course of action among multiple options, to interpret policies, to assists in planning short to mid-range goals and determining measures, and to assess and monitor progress toward unit goal attainment.
What t he RN Supervisor will do:
Communicates and collaborates with staff, practice leaders, operations directors, medical staff, and other personnel regarding clinical operations, patient flow and staff development opportunities.
Manages day-to-day operations of a single ambulatory practice. Resolves problems within area of specialty.
Supervises staff from an operations and clinical perspective. Collaborates with Practice Leader and Operations Director to facilitate hiring and performance management responsibilities. Supports the completion of performance reviews and mentoring of all staff assigned to team.
Facilitates scheduling, staffing and daily adjustments in collaboration with the Practice Leader based on patient needs, understanding budgetary parameters and resources available.
Facilitates patient flow which includes but is not limited to identifying problems, suggested needed changes, working with Practice Leader, etc.
Assists Practice Leader and Operations Director, other clinical leaders, in matching human resources, clinical skills and patient needs with plan of care.
Identifies gaps in knowledge and works with PDS for professional development support and mentoring staff within the assigned practice. Serves as a clinical expert in assigned area.
Identifies and support practice process reviews to improve patient safety, operational effectiveness and efficiency
Provides input into clinical and operating procedures/protocols for service area in collaboration with Practice Leader and Operations Director.
