LOCATION
The Gas Distribution Risk Engineer position is eligible for remote work or can be based in any of our Michigan locations.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Gas Distribution Risk Engineer is responsible for the Company's risk analysis related to the Gas Distribution System, including all 8 threats as defined by the Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP). This individual will own the company's Distribution Risk Analysis Module (DRAM-risk model) and be responsible for the data inputs, validation and results from the model. The Distribution Risk Engineer will partner with other areas of the organization to gather additional data inputs, collaborate on replacement plans due to risk results and develop reports related to risk status and improvements.
Tasks for this role will include:
- Risk Model Ownership / Utilization / Improvement
- GIS Risk modeling using Distribution Risk Analysis Module (DRAM) model
- Gather data to prep the risk model, run the model annually (semi-annually), perform model data and results validation
- Interpret model results and assist in development of grid prioritization for replacement project planning
- Partner with IT and Operations to improve model data, including developing ways to gather additional data that would improve system knowledge and modeling
- Projection of future risk results given the planned replacements for future years
- Risk Reporting
- Own the distribution risk Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics and be responsible for report outs on the quarterly metric reviews
- Partner with DIMP team on leak projections
- Own the new distribution risk metrics in support of the Natural Gas Delivery Plan (NGDP)
- Distribution Engineering Analysis
- Own the distribution risk Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics and be responsible for report outs on the quarterly metric reviews
- Lead the annual service risk analysis to determine prioritization for Vintage Service Replacement (VSR) program
- Support Enhanced Infrastructure Replacement Program (EIRP) and Vintage Service (VSR) programs through data analysis and acquisition
- Support any future risk project mitigation efforts
- Rate Case Support
- Provide risk information in support of gas rate cases
- DIMP Manual Contributions
- Provide input and updates to the DIMP manual
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree scientific/technical field and a minimum of 2 years of experience (OR) Associate degree in a scientific/technical field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the specific field (OR) no degree, and minimum 10 years of company or industry experience in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - The following skills will set you apart:
- ESRI GIS Knowledge
- Experience with DNV-GL products, such as Synergi Pipeline and Distribution Risk Analysis Module
- Ability to partner with cross-functional departments
- Strong analytical skills
HOURS & TRAVEL
- This role is typically a 45 hour per week role. Flexibility in schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime may be required to support customer requirements.
- Travel up to 10% of time with occasional overnight travel, depending on assignment and/or training needs.
