The University of Michigan Library is one of the world’s largest academic research libraries and serves a vibrant university community that is home to 19 schools and colleges, 100 top ten graduate programs, and annual research expenditures exceeding $1.5 billion a year. To enable the university’s world-changing work and to serve the public good, the library collects, preserves, and shares the scholarly and cultural record in all forms, and leads the reinvention of the academic research library in the digital age.
The Library’s Learning and Teaching (L&T) division introduces students to scholarly practices, connecting with library sources and services that are aligned with their academic goals as they grow their studies. Colleagues in this area engage faculty in the exploration of pedagogical and instructional technology development. L&T offers labs, reference services, instruction, and partnerships specifically focused on the integration of Library services and resources with campus learning and teaching programs.
The Digital Learning Librarian understands the environment of technology, higher education, and information literacy instruction in academic libraries. Reporting to the Director of Learning Programs and Initiatives, this librarian will apply learning theories, design principles, and technology to manage learning objects/modules and other library instruction materials for our credit courses and for our one-shot course integrated sessions. The Digital Learning Librarian also has a substantial role in providing in-person instruction and contributing to Ask a Librarian chat/email reference services and personal and small group research consultations. This position may teach days and evenings and in multiple locations across campus.
The Library is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and encourages all employees to incorporate their diverse backgrounds, skills, and life experiences into their work. The Library’s Diversity Strategic Plan is viewable here.
