Job Description
Key Responsibilities
The Calibration Technical Specialist plays a vital role in projects, leveraging his or her expertise and cross functional partners to provide the roadmap and building blocks for calibration execution. This position resides within the Vehicle Motion Embedded Controls organization. Main responsibilities include:
· Subject Matter Expert in given Transmission Calibration area
o Understand the physics behind the plant or physical system and the implemented control methodology
· Lead the Calibration Community of Practice for their domain
o Set Direction for Best Practices and Procedures
o Provide Technical Mentoring to individuals in and out of the direct group, including global partners
o Assist in program issue resolution
· Develop Calibration Standard Work
o Support development of initial Calibration Execution Guide as a Scrum team member for the given area, including procedures for joint venture partners
o Lead the refinement of the Calibration Execution Guide, including RLM efficiency enhancement and capability growth within the Community of Practice
o Support the Scrum teams during job function assignment, master cal default value assignments and calibration tool development
· Support the development of Physics based system requirements
o Provide calibration input to the Agile Release Train or Advanced requirements development team during initial control system design
o Provide feedback from the Community of Practice on missing use cases, noise factors, limitations, assumptions to improve control system performance and capability
Additional Job Description
Minimum Required Skills and Experience
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and/or Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering
· 5+ years of demonstrated technical and professional experience in Transmission Calibration, Hydraulic design/development or related field
· High level of interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with cross-functional partners to meet mutual goals
· High level of analytical problem solving ability, including independent judgment and decision making skills
· Self-motivated to work independently and effectively with others with minimal guidance
· Lead discussions, action plans and solutions to drive issues to closure at the organizational level
· Ability to motivate and influence others with management support
· DFSS Black Belt Certification Required
· Ability to travel domestically and internationally
· Ability to legally drive a vehicle in North America, meeting GM's Safe Driving rules and regulations
· Advanced level of oral and written communication skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
· Master's or PhD degree in Engineering
· Strong background in Controls knowledge of assigned area
Python and/or Matlab fluency
