Job Overview:We are currently looking to hire an Animal Technician for our team in Ann Arbor, MI.
RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
- Under supervision, perform animal husbandry tasks, including but not limited to, health checks, feed and watering of animals, and cage changes utilizing aseptic technique. Ability to handle small animals.
- Monitor Vivarium conditions (temperature, humidity, air flow, etc) and report issues to Supervisor.
- Accept and distribute animal food and bedding.
- Properly dispose of general and hazardous waste.
- Perform general maintenance of Vivarium and surrounding areas as needed.
- Understand and comply with all applicable SOPs.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education/Qualifications:EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent required.
Experience:EXPERIENCE
OTHER:
- Good interpersonal skills. Ability and willingness to learn new things. Animal handling experience preferred but not required. Computer literacy preferred. Mechanical knowledge preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Works in a research environment with exposure to sharps and potentially caustic chemicals and substances of unknown hazard. Must function while adhering to various PPE requirements. Noise level in Vivarium is moderate to loud.
- Must function and adequately perform all responsibilities associated with the job while adhering to various established safety and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and bend and move within rack/bubble environment.
- Regularly works with animals with risk of exposure to allergens, zoonotic diseases and biohazards.
- Laboratory is BioSafety Level II.
ADDITIONAL
- This position requires overtime, weekend, holiday and/or afterhours shift coverage, as needed.
