Job description:
AVL is looking for a Sr. Project Engineer - Electrical/System Hardware to support our Plymouth, MI location. The Sr. Project Engineer - Electrical/Systems Hardware will be respondible for providing technical and program engineering skills to Skill Team and Cross-Functional engineering program activities. This position will work within diverse projects as required by the PEI company. This position works closely within the PEI engineering team as well as will be responsible for customer interfacing as well. Strong verbal and written skills are required in this role.
Qualified candidates will posesses a strong understanding of the Electronic/System Hardware Engineering aspects of electrification, system technology development, and the vehicle integration of these technologies. Electrical design experience and understanding how to design electrical systems is required, as well as high voltage experience is highly preferred.

Expected to have demonstrated performance abilities in the following areas:
* CommercialQuote Leader for a medium to large size program
* Support the Business Development process for a range of clients
* Efficient on time delivery of program expectations with consistently high feedback
* Technical Identify and support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and re-use.
* Published at least 2 papers accepted by a professional organization or 2 patents awarded
* Familiarity with regulatory and market segment requirements and end-user expectations
* Significant knowledge of electrified systems and relevant technologies within passenger car, medium duty, or heavy duty
* Automotive electrical design experience (Connectors, power isolation, sensors and actuators, thermal requirements, EMC, design safety requirements)
* Electrified system and component testing
* Core competency in the following areas: Systems Engineering
* Electrification Engineering
* Hardware engineering
* Independent functionality in at least two or more of the following areas: Traction motor/inverter development and integration
* Electronic controller hardware specifying and developing/sourcing
* Powertrain integration to vehicle / chassis development and production release
* Communication network (e.g. CAN) development and testing
* Schematic design and PCB layout
* Relational Leadership of small to medium size technical teams
* Working effectively with customers and other program staff and team members
* Accountability for individual and team delivery
* Program and resource coordination
* Active pursuit of personal and departmental improvement
* Effective communication with all levels of the program team
* Experience and Education 5-7+ years’ experience in area of expertise
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field required
* Masters degree preferred
