Position Description:
The Field Technician performs a variety of tasks in support of outside plant design for power and telecom companies. He/she should have a basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures used in the field and will rely on established guidelines, processes and procedures to perform the functions of the job.
The Field Technician I:
Execute work orders for fielding of infrastructure while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints
Collect data by visually identifying, inspecting, and recording equipment and structures in the field
Map data collected and apply established fielding guidelines, processes and procedures
Requirements:
Education & Experience: Typically requires Associates Degree in a technical field or 2 Years of related equivalent training/experience
Ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics
Strong oral and written communication skills
Able to work in all weather conditions
Willing to travel overnight during the week
Dependable transportation and valid driver's license and insurance
Able to pass a background check/drug test/driving record check
Computer literate - especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Authorized to work in the United States
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to endure frequent/lengthy: Driving, standing, walking long distances (5 miles or more in a day), navigating rough terrain on foot and lifting/balancing objects that may weigh up to ~20 lbs. and require the use of upper extremities and back muscles; work in proximity to moving vehicles in the right of way.
Must be able to endure sitting for prolonged periods of time, including driving in a vehicle.
Must have the physical ability to perform activities such as visually identifying, inspecting, and measuring objects as well as transcribing notes in proximity to moving vehicles in the right of way; these activities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must have the physical ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, often in a group setting.
Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
