Inst/Ast Professor of German
Position Summary
The Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University is seeking an instructor or assistant professor of German Studies for a fixed-term, one semester, one course position teaching one 300 level German course beginning August 16, 2020. The position is non-renewable.
Course Description: This 300-level course is intended for students who have either successfully completed (2.0 or higher) German 202 or who have placed into GRM 301/302. GRM 301/302 are the first courses that count toward the major, for a minor up to 3 credits can be counted from GRM 201/202.
In the course students will read, view, and discuss a broad range of cultural materials from the German-speaking world. The course serves as an introduction to German Studies for majors and non-majors. The topic for this course is the natural world – and our sometimes unnatural technologies which interfere with our ecological order.
The courses also focus on MSU’s undergraduate learning goals (http://undergrad.msu.edu/programs/learninggoals), especially cultural understanding, effective communication, and integrative reasoning.
