This position manages the day-to-day Human Resources functions for a manufacturing company Saginaw, MI. The Human Resources Manager will assist and support other business units as needed. He or she will apply Human Resources principles and concepts in the areas of benefits administration, recruitment/selection, compensation, performance management, employee relations, Union contract administration, compliance with reporting requirements of regulatory agencies and Federal and State law interpretation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
All aspects of recruiting including, but not limited to, writing job descriptions, use of approved social media, posting open positions, working with recruiters, screening resumes, scheduling and participating in interviews, preparing job offers, handling pre-employment testing, onboarding and running the employee referral program.
Manage the FAA anti-drug and alcohol program (DOT) for safety sensitive positions.
Labor relations including, but not limited to, Union contract administration and negotiations, counseling, investigations, corrective actions, complaint resolution, grievance handling up through arbitration.
Leads/participates in Union meetings, training team, joint activities team, staff meetings, Management Review meetings and scheduling apprentice courses.
Annual performance appraisals including training of managers, goal setting, talent development, succession planning, compensation planning and on-time completion.
Affirmative Action Plan, EEO and Vets reporting.
AS9100D Training Procedure which includes keeping all training documents.
Assists managers in employee performance improvement plans, attends and documents all meetings. Prepares severance packages and termination paperwork.
30-day and 90-day new employee evaluations.
Prepares the holiday calendar, organizational announcements, organizational charts, phone listings, PowerPoint presentations, among others.
Creates, distributes, posts and trains employees on the employee handbook, code of conduct, new regulations, required posters, among others.
Oversees payroll, benefits, time and attendance, leaves of absence, ethics training and complaints and all HR Specialist duties and activities.
Acts as a backup to the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree preferred.
8 years' experience in Human Resources.
5 years' experience in a Human Resources Management position.
Previous experience in dealing with a broad spectrum of employee issues including employee counseling and leadership counseling.
Ability to manage conflict.
5 years' experience in a Unionized manufacturing environment.
Previous Union contract negotiation experience.
Proficient in Federal and State laws that apply to employment (wage and hour, leaves of absence, etc.).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including comfort in making. presentations, facilitating discussions, and delivering disciplines and terminations.
Ability to multi-task during various levels of interruption.
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Experience in an aerospace and defense industries desirable.
Experience with Paylocity desirable.
Experience with COVID-19 response planning and actions desirable.
