ELIGIBLE PERSONS
At the time of application and appointment, applicant must have:
- A High School Diploma or GED AND:
- A valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License with Type "A" endorsement and a safe and acceptable driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF APPLICATION.)
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Proof of education must be submitted with application.
Appointees must obtain a CDL "N" endorsement within the first three (3) months of their probationary period. Appointees who do not obtain the "N" endorsement will be removed from the Public Service Maintenance Worker position pursuant to the Department of Personnel/Human Resources and Department of Public Services procedures.
As a condition of employment, appointees must:
- Have a drug screen when hired and submit to random drug screen thereafter;
- Agree to a criminal history check.
Names on the resulting eligibility list will be certified only to positions in the Parks Division of the Department of Public Services.
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES
Public Service Maintenance Workers (Parks) are employed in the Department of Public Services, Parks Division. They perform a variety of tasks related to the cultivation and care of landscaping and grounds. Employees plant flowers, mow grounds, trim shrubs, pull weeds, repair structures, maintain buildings and remove snow from grounds and surrounding parks areas. Employees also perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment utilized in grounds keeping and install, erect or repair guardrails, roads shoulders, beams, highway markers, warning signals, and highway lighting. Public Service Maintenance Worker (Parks) also assist with a variety of special events, including: Light Fest displays and Light Fest Operations, Jazz Fest, with putting up tents, traffic control and parking assistance. Employees perform other duties as assigned.
