ELIGIBLE PERSONS
Regular status as an Engineer 6 and three years of experience in that classification; AND
A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or similar civil engineering degree as determined acceptable by the Department of Personnel/Human Resources; AND
At least three (3) years of experience performing bridge inspection, dam inspection, structural design; AND
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan; AND
A current FHWA Bridge Inspection Certificate; AND
A valid State of Michigan Driver's License and an acceptable, safe driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF APPLICATION).
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Division Director of Roads, the Engineer 7 is responsible for directing the engineering operations in the Structures Section. This position will ensure the safety and longevity of bridges, pump stations, culverts and other structures in the Wayne County Roads system. The Engineer 7 will perform complex structures operation decisions including determining if existing and proposed structure maintenance and construction projects are in compliance with Federal and State rules and regulations. This position will review plans, generate repair costs for county bridges, pump stations, attenuators and dams, calculate and update all bridge load ratings and report to MiBridge website, correspond with other engineering offices, order the collection of data for bridges, structures and pump stations, respond to pump and attenuator emergencies, and will review and respond to complaints of structures issues. The Engineer 7 will also perform other duties necessary to ensure efficient operations in the Structures Section.
TYPES OF TESTS
An Oral Information Interview (60%) will be administered covering knowledge of Federal and State traffic regulations, advanced civil engineering principles, Wayne County Engineering policies, structure, bridge and pump station construction and maintenance procedures, materials used in engineering and other related areas. Personal Qualifications Interview will be rated at (35%). Experience and Training will be worth (5%).
