Position Title: Clinical Risk Management Specialist
Position Summary:
The Clinical Risk Management Specialist supports and implements a clinical risk
management program that is designed to enhance patient safety and quality of care, avoid economic
hardship through identification, assessment, prevention, reduction and resolution of high risk exposures.
He/she is responsible for the investigation of claims or potential claims against the facility. He/she
enhances a safe working environment and insures compliance with applicable regulatory laws and
agencies.
What the Clinical Risk Management Specialist will need:
Graduate of an approved Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program OR Bachelor's degree in legal or risk management field with an Associate Degree in Nursing or comparable education and/or experience.
Risk Management Certification (CPHRM) is preferred upon hire or must be successfullycompleted within 18 months of hire. Other nationally recognized health care riskmanagement certification may be considered.
Capable of assembling teams to review sentinel events.
What the Clinical Risk Management Specialist will do:
Coordinates and administers systems for risk identification, investigation and reduction.
Assists with the writing, management and implementation of the annual Risk Management
Plan. Measures outcomes and reports results to leadership, staff and the Board of Trustees.
Maintains a working knowledge of current best practices to maintain a high reliability, low risk
care delivery system for all of Mercy Health Partners.
Provides leadership to all areas in current legal trends and practices.
Assists in the development of clinical and nonclinical Risk Management policies and procedures. Works toward the resolution of risk management problems through participation on hospital committees.
Utilizes the computer based Potential Error/Event Reporting System (PEERS). Works in collaboration with Trinity Health IRMS to continuously measure the effectiveness of the PEERS system.
Utilizes PEERS data to recommend, support and implement risk reduction activities.
Works collaboratively with Performance Improvement Coordinators and Patient Safety to
respond to and review Sentinel Events.
Maintains appropriate risk management statistics and files. Ensures confidentiality of andcontrolled access to such information
