Position Summary
Michigan State University invites applications for a faculty or professional staff position in the area of Mobility Innovation and Research. Candidates must have a record of research leadership in an area related to autonomous and connected vehicles. The position is expected to be structured as a fixed-term academic appointment, with the title and rank dependent upon the qualifications and record of the successful candidate, but other types of appointments will be considered.
Michigan State University will amplify its current research efforts in the area of mobility and elevate it to one of its major focus areas. Mobility includes all forms of autonomous and connected vehicles. Existing research topic clusters include engineering topics such as transportation systems, data science, sensor technology, image processing, artificial intelligence, communication technology, network design, and cyber security. There are also leading efforts in research on social impacts, business practices, legal consequences, urban planning, and others.
The ideal candidate will lead university-wide initiatives to advance knowledge and practice around future transportation technologies. The MSU Director of Mobility Innovation and Research will be a proven leader in at least one of the areas of excellence listed above and be able to effectively communicate with other experts in different areas, as well as with outside partners and funding agencies, ideally leading interdisciplinary teams in cross-cutting research collaborations.

Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. required for appointment in an appropriate academic department with professorial title (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor) to be consistent with department and college standards. Alternatively, appointment could be as a Research Specialist with an appropriate title (e.g. Research Director) in a department or college.
