This Learning Specialist position will be responsible for delivering instruction to Consumer Energy Operations Department workers. You will actively participate instructing in classrooms as well as observing hands on activities being performed within the Marshall Training facilities. This position plays a key role in maintaining consistency in training in accordance with Consumers Energy practices, procedures and policies.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct training in accordance with Consumers Energy Operations Standards and Procedures and be a business support resource.
- Revise course materials to ensure they are current to company standards and enhance the learning experience.
- Work extensively with company and union instructors to assist in becoming an effective instructor.
- Work with Temporary Union Instructors (known as TUI'S) as they assist with the hands-on training out in the training yard.
- Manage Multiple work assignments, perform training by classroom delivery (technology assisted), and hands on field work.
- Coordinate with L&D subject matter specialists and their supervisors to schedule and instruct courses in accordance with the needs of the business.
- Partner with Joint Apprentice Committee and instructional design staff to update and implement changes in course material.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of study. Demonstrated results in classroom delivery. Special registration or Licensing may be required in certain fields. Less than a bachelor's degree may be acceptable if accompanied by extensive industry experience in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance.
- Must have great communication skill, with the ability to listen and build trust within the training environment.
- Possess excellent preparation and organizational skills with strong work ethics.
- 3+ years of Electric Lines Worker Field Experience.
Overview
The Learning & Development Job Family is utilized in those areas of the Company where employee development and skills training is provided. Typically employees in this job family are required to have aptitude to operate computer terminals, utilize various computer software programs, present training in a classroom setting and document that training requirements are met.
Nature of Work
The essence of the work that is performed by the Learning & Development Job Family is to deliver employee development and technical skills training programs for employees of Consumers Energy. This includes: assessment of development and/or training needs and delivery of appropriate development and training programs. In addition, the Lead positions supervise other Learning & Development employees. For some jobs in this family, professional certification or licensing may be required.
Essential Functions
Delivers training programs in classrooms, via electronic learning and/or independent study. Maintain training budgets and coordinates inter-departmental input. Defines objectives; designs, or assists in designing course material; delivers training; facilitates program evaluations and course material and training aids. Presents development and/or training concepts to management for review and approval. Provides information, resources, materials and equipment to departments in support of their training and employee development programs, as available; prepare reports and correspondence; participate in meetings; compile data. Maintain current knowledge of workplace diversity issues, EEO, sexual harassment, and ADA regulations, laws, and policies. Uses a variety of computer programs in presenting training materials. Maintains regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite. Meet travel requirements of the position. Perform the physical requirements of the position; work within the established working conditions of the position. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime. Regular attendance is expected.

This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations.
