Position Summary
Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital (HDVCH) and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine seek a full time Academic Pediatric Hospitalist to join our growing team of 18 physicians and 5 nurse practitioners. Applicants should demonstrate a record of excellent clinical skills, a passion for medical education, and a collaborative approach to caring for complex patients. We specifically seek a candidate with experience in quality improvement or clinical research. Fellowship or advanced training is preferred. Regular scholarly output, with publication and research mentorship of our PHM fellows, will be expected and supported. We have a strong, institutionally supported quality improvement program with dedicated quality and process improvement specialists for our projects. Candidates must be board-certified/board-eligible in Pediatrics, and ideal candidates would be board-certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine or board-eligible for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine subspecialty board-certifying exam.
HDVCH is a 236 bed tertiary care referral center with approximately 11,000 pediatric admissions per year, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There are over 110,000 ambulatory visits, as well as over 55,000 children are seen in the Pediatric Emergency Department (Level 1 Trauma rated) each year. We are home to a large pediatrics residency program and 7 pediatric fellowship programs, including our Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship, now in its second year. Our faculty are heavily involved with teaching medical students, residents and fellows both at the bedside and in the classroom.
The position includes core faculty status with our Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship as well as an academic appointment with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine; academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Clinically, we provide 24/7 in house coverage and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital has 24/7 in house PICU, NICU and resident coverage as well. Our service performs roughly 4,000 discharges per year. There is no newborn care or delivery coverage associated with this position.
Basic Qualifications:
Education - Medical Degree (MD or DO)
Current M.D. or D.O. license for the state of Michigan.
Current State of Michigan and Federal Narcotics Licenses.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Specific to SHMG 90 Days
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Specific to SHMG: ACLS required if stress tests performed or as required by specialty. 120 Days
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Specific to SHMG: (PALS is required by if specialty or stress test performed 120 Days
