Summary
Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). The John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is seeking a Part Time Urologist as part of an ongoing expansion of the Surgery Program, reporting to the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Surgery.
Responsibilities
- Extensive experience in performing robotic prostatectomy is essential. * Preference will be given to candidates with competence in performing other advanced robotic/laparoscopic and oncologic urologic procedures. *Demonstrated administrative and leadership experience is also a plus. *The candidate should be customer-service focused, and have proven clinical excellence, with exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. *The ability to achieve quality outcomes, optimize clinic capacity and utilization of resources, and maximize operating room efficiency to meet required performance measures is essential. *The candidate will have an academic appointment at our physically-adjacent affiliate, Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU-SOM), is expected to foster a supportive resident teaching environment, and will have the opportunity to develop basic, translational, or clinical research programs in conjunction with other VAMC investigators and/or with faculty in the WSU-SOM Department of Urology Work Schedule: Part Time Day shift

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2020.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Urology. Preference will be given to candidates with competence in performing other advanced robotic/laparoscopic and oncology, urology procedures Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting and carrying (45+ lbs); As needed - Straight pulling, pulling hand over hand, pushing and reaching above shoulders, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, climbing using both legs and arms; use of fingers and both hands required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13'-16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); working closely with others; working alone; protracted or irregular hours of work.
