Job Description Summary
The Medical MicroDevice Engineering Research Laboratory (uM.D.-ERL), directed by Dr. Adrienne Minerick at Michigan Technological University invites applications for a postdoctoral associate or Research Scientist/Engineer position. The successful candidate will conduct research in the area of protein and/or molecular separations and related applications.

This is a fixed-term position that is dependent on external funding. The position will be evaluated after 12 months, with an option to renew the appointment
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Responsibilities include performing experiments, analysis, creative problem solving, writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, presenting research results at conferences, supervising graduate and undergraduate research, writing proposals, creating Standard Operating Procedures, and adhering to applicable safety protocols.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
Ph.D. (Postdoctoral Associate) or M.S. (Research Scientist/Engineer) in chemical engineering, chemistry, biomedical engineering, biology, biochemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
Experience in various biomolecular separations and characterization methods including electrophoresis and others.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Experience with human biological samples; Experience with surface chemistry and/or chromatography separations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
Excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to deliver technical information to peer audiences in English.
Excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with group members in a team.
Experience with technical writing, especially with publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Knowledge with hemoglobin, including glycosylation chemistry, molecular characterizations, and detection; Independent design and execution of in vitro experiments to innovate on protein separations; Knowledge of surfactant and/or buffer chemistry, diabetic diagnostic indicators, and/or electrochemistry; Develop, evaluate, and implement separations technology and optimize existing techniques and workflows; Maintain scientific awareness by regularly reading in the literature. Knowledge and/or experience with design of experiments and statistical analysis of data sets.
Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills
Knowledge and/or experience with design of experiments and statistical analysis of data sets.
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical biosafety level I and II laboratory, office, and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
