The Cost Coach is responsible to lead commodity team through the cost process on forward-model programs to establish cost targets. They are primarily program management that facilitates the commodity team to help achieve the best possible cost target. The Cost Coach is an independent team member that provides process adherence that will generate a consistent high quality of data.
Duties:
Jointly working with commodity team to prepare target decisions and is the voice of the cost team in the process, e.g., surfaces tradeoffs and facilitates decisions
Facilitate and document cross-functional team meetings
Plan and implement timing plans to ensure timely delivery for the assigned components.
Support Supplier meetings
Deploy criteria for supplier and design selection & audit fulfillment of criteria for supplier and design nominations for the exercise
Complement supplier and design research where necessary (e.g., analyses of prior data, public information, FACTS)
Prepare and present information on team recommendations and status to management
Support benchmarking teardown of internal and competitive parts, and documentation for supplier workshops. Including Picture BoM
Support alignment of cost calculation sheet structure with program intent requirements (in conjunction with Cost Estimating).
Provide communication materials for supplier invitation when applicable
Support in handling supplier questions during and after workshop and provide communication materials when applicable
Support data consolidation (error checking, etc.)
Ensure quality of target setting calculations and outputs
Lead trade-off discussions in target walks; facilitate decision making process
Provide communication materials for supplier feedback when applicable
Identify Tough Choices in Target Walks
Coordinate final commodity target documentation for re-use on future programs
Develop and maintain robust supplier relationships that benefit the delivery of the product according to program needs.
Lead execution of Design to Target (D2T) workshops
Support supplier on-board timing and sourcing selection process
Qualifications:
Bachelor's engineering degree or equivalent
2+ years of experience in automotive industry or other in program management roles
Demonstrated experience successfully working with and leading cross-functional and supplier teams.
Strong experience with complex process management
Team leadership skills and open communication/coaching mentality
Engineering or Purchasing background and prior functional experience are a plus
Proficient written & verbal communication skills
Good conflict management skills
Adept at working across organizational boundaries to accomplish tasks
Motivation skills to drive teams to best-in-class performance
Flexibility and can-do attitude
Proficiency in data management and analysis (Microsoft Excel, Access)
Proficient in MS PowerPoint
Desired experience in Program Management, Purchasing, Sourcing, Quote preparation and/or Cost Estimating preferred
Well versed in Cost Processes (experience with target setting tools, Design-to-Target methodology, or familiarity with decision making process for trade-offs)
