Job Description
ITW Drawform & Sexton is a $200M USD Division within Illinois Tool Works' Automotive Segment. It has an excellent reputation for delivering top results and exceeding customer expectations within the deep draw and aerosol can industries. The Division has been granted a multi-year project that requires a Product Test Lab Engineer to help execute the launch and, subsequently, the long-term electric vehicle development efforts within the division. This newly created position is a member of ITW Drawform & Sexton Division's new product launch team in the EV market and will require frequent interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.
The Lab Engineer will oversee test lab operations for the assigned projects and products and will support business growth through the development of new or improved EV-related products using the deep draw technology and know-how and will establish quality requirements. In conjunction with the team, the lab engineer is responsible for all aspects of new product development: design, costing, development, trial run supervision, testing, scale-up, documentation, communication, and technology transfer to the plant floor.
Essential Functions:
· Ensure capability & capacity for testing
· Establish, monitor & control capital requirements and budgets
· Develop standardized test methods, processes, procedures & work instructions, and train testing staff
· Manage fabrication of testing & test control apparatus and equipment
· Provide input to design engineering activities & new product development
· Drive continuous improvements and advises on technologic improvements & corrective actions.
Assist in Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) efforts.
Update procedures, PFMEA, and control plans as necessary.
Troubleshoot production processes in an effort to support improvement to existing manufacturing tooling, processes, methods, and procedures.
Responsible for reducing and controlling manufacturing process defects (scrap, nonconforming material & customer complaints) by leading efforts/teams focused on identifying the primary root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
Proactively visit the customer, review assembly operations, and talk to line side employees to improve business relationships and solicit input for improvements at ITW Drawform.
· Participate in business plan and growth strategies
· Drive development of unique products to improve competitiveness
· Provide training, project design consultation and post-launch support as needed
· Supervise the tests data analysis
· Write validation reports for the tests
Job Requirements
Requires Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Engineering Technology field with 5 years of related lab experience (Materials, Metallurgy)
Capable of performing routine physical, chemical, and metallurgical tests (heatseal, tensiles, COF, burst, etc.) and interpreting results
Skilled at managing multiple tasks within time constraints
Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
Capable of communicating with customers and operations personnel under stressful or adverse conditions
Proven Project Management skills and ability to work with minimal direction, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability
Proficient computer literacy with established basic knowledge in general applications; word processing, spreadsheets, projects, PowerPoint and ERP systems
