Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to perform the essential function of a Police Officer which include, but are not limited to, the suppression of crime and criminal activity, the protection of life and property, the apprehension and arrest of violators of criminal laws, the recovery of stolen property and the regulation of non-criminal conduct.
Responsibilities
Responds to calls for police assistance; determines whether incidents are criminal or civil in nature; patrol the campus on foot or in a motor vehicle; Identify and remove hazards; enforce traffic and parking policies regulation and laws; investigate and document traffic related incidents; Investigate suspicious vehicles; operate traffic radar equipment; assist in moving patient vehicles when necessary. Identify and apprehend offenders; advise persons of their constitutional rights; make judgments regarding the arrest, citation or release of suspects; Issue citations and make arrest for non-traffic offenses; use physical force as necessary to control or subdue persons; Investigate accidents; search for missing people; conduct surveillance; investigate crimes against persons and property; prepare criminal cases of prosecution; Provide accurate oral description of persons, places and events; exchange information with other state, local and federal law enforcement officers. Work Schedule: Work schedules are 12 hour rotating shifts, Sunday through Saturday, to include weekends and holidays. Must be able to wear body armor, duty belt and other protective gear throughout your assigned shift or as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 grade level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression that has provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operation, practice and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments, in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skill. Applicants are subject to the provisions of the LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT to the Gun Control Act of 1968, which prohibits persons who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to be appointed to positions in Federal Law Enforcement, including Department of Veterans Affairs Police. Education
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
