The FCA Powertrain organization is currently seeking multiple Powertrain Test Mechanics to join the team at the Chelsea Proving Grounds, Michigan. The Mechanic will work within the powertrain labs at CPG. The Mechanic may be responsible for diverse work assignments ranging from engine and transmission build/test to full vehicle testing. The Mechanic's responsibilities include but are not limited to testing and maintenance on new engines/transmissions/vehicles in a test cell environment, moving powertrains and/or vehicles into and out of test-cells and park/soak locations, installing powertrains and/or vehicles onto dynamometers with full emissions, and data collection systems and instrumentation. The Mechanic is responsible for fabricating components to support testing, maintaining test articles, diagnosing testing or test article issues, repairing test articles, monitoring testing and maintaining test cell operation. The Mechanic will be responsible for driving or conducting testing to the prescribed test-schedules, must stay up-to-date on all training and participate in continuous improvement and performance and leadership activities.
Please note: This is a UAW salaried represented position. As a UAW salaried represented employee, the individual is subject to any dues required by local/national agreements.
Please also note: This position is for 2nd Shift or 3rdShift (2ndShift: 3:00 PM - 11:15 PM EDT; 3rdShift: 11:00 PM - 7:15 AM EDT).
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
ASE or Michigan State Certification (engine repair)
Highly motivated self-starter, able to work on own with limited direction and supervision
Demonstrated understanding of engine mechanical operation and fuel systems (gasoline, diesel, PHEV, HEV)
Demonstrated ability to use various measurement tools (micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, etc.)
Must have valid driver's license with no physical restrictions
Must be able to drive a manual transmission
Ability to multi-task working on multiple jobs at once
Ability to communicate concerns and findings clearly to engineering
Basic computer skills
Flexible work schedule with the ability to work 2nd or 3rdshift, holidays and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree, or equivalent (Science, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive; Others, such as Trade School will be considered with appropriate experience)
3 years of experience in lab environment running emissions/performance/durability testing, or engine/transmission build up or failure analysis
Diesel and Direct Injection testing with particulate measurement experience
Experience with test controllers, instrumentation; thermocouples, shunts, transducers and sensors
Experience with fixture and fabrication welding (TIG and MIG)
Dealership or general experience working on FCA engines (diesel, internal combustion, HEV, PHEV)
Chassis Dynamometer Emission experience within the last 3 years
Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot test vehicle through diagnostics
