GENERAL SUMMARY: The Spiritual Care chaplain provides the pastoral needs on the spiritual care team for all patients, patient family members, their support persons, and staff. Such ministry generally will encompass all of the following: emotional and spiritual support, counseling, ministry of presence, worship, prayer, and other religious resources as appropriate. The chaplain will attend to religious, spiritual, moral, and ethical problems of the newly admitted, critically ill, extended, hospice, and palliative care patients and their families. Spiritual support and care will also be provided to staff on a secondary level as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Functions as a member of a consultative, interdisciplinary work team.
Is responsible for providing spiritual/emotional support to patients/families and staff.
Participates as an Interdisciplinary Care Team member in patient conferencing and interdisciplinary team meetings. Sees that assessment, service provision and documentation are in accordance with departmental policy and Unit Care Program standards.
Provides bereavement support to patients and families along the continuum of their crisis and situation.
Participates in continuous quality improvement projects and professional development with the Unit Care team.
Provides debriefing support in times of crisis in conjunction with the Social Services Department.
Maintains the highest standards of conduct in hospitality, appearance, attitude, respect and teamwork.
Participates in department patient care schedules to ensure 24/7 coverage.
Plan, implement and conduct appropriate worship or ceremonial services.
Supports department office duties.
Performs other tasks as assigned
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education / Training: Baccalaureate degree awarded by an accredited postsecondary institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, Master's degree in Divinity or equivalent degree incorporating theological education as required by endorsing body. Satisfactory completion of four (4) units of ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
B. Work Experience: One year experience as a chaplain preferred.
A. Certification, Licensure, Registration: Board Certification eligible by a National Certifying Agency recognized by the Spiritual Care Cognate Group (APC; CASC, NACC; NJC) or SCA. Board Certification required within 2 years of employment.
