This position supports the engineering teams by fabricating, assembling, and wiring of tooling, fixtures, and prototype assemblies and sub-assemblies for STRATTEC. Responsibilities may also include the development and creation of custom show bucks, vehicle retrofits, and product displays to promote new STRATTEC products, technologies and concepts. Technician will be responsible for both electrical and mechanical tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Crimp and solder electrical terminations of various wire gages and types.
- Terminate wire harnesses with automotive electrical connectors and connection systems, and be proficient with how to manipulate these connectors.
- Build, verify, and install complete wiring harness assemblies, including wire management, strain relief, protective sleeves, etc.
- Use machine tools including but not limited to lathes, milling machines, machining centers, grinding machines, band saw, shear, hand tools, etc.
- Determine the necessary cutting speed and feed rates, tools, materials and machines required to produce the desired component in the most cost and time efficient manner.
- Use multiple welding techniques (MIG, TIG, etc.).
- Assemble test fixtures and custom / prototype part assemblies
- Fabricate tooling / fixtures as required to assist in part fabrication.
- Read and interpret blueprints, charts, schematics, and STRATTEC, customer or industry specifications to build test equipment and fixtures
- Create and modify CAD generated models, detail component drawings, wiring schematics and assembly drawings.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers and other personnel to perform duties of the job.
- Offer solutions and input/feedback to engineers, designers and other personnel related to job tasks.
- Maintain a safe, clean working environment.
- Insure equipment is maintained and is in proper working condition and assure preventative maintenance is accomplished.
- Complete work at a high level of quality and craftsmanship
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Associate's degree (AS) from two-year college or university; with 2+ years related experience and/or training; trade school certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in: Electrical, Fabrication, Automation Systems Technology, Maintenance Technician or Industrial Maintenance Technician is preferred.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Willingness to perform manual, hands-on tasks
- Experience in practical electrical wiring, electronics, electronic test equipment and troubleshooting
- Experience in mechanical fabrication and assembly
- Proficient in and/or willingness to learn all of the techniques listed above; wiring, soldering, machining, welding, custom fabrication in all forms of metal, plastics, composites, etc.
- Computer literacy, uses Microsoft Office Suite products to prepare reports and updates
- Ability to handle and organize multiple projects at a time
