Responsibilities/Qualification
Position Summary:
Provide support to the Chief Scientist's office at the U.S. Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (formerly TARDEC). Conduct literature reviews, write scientific journal papers, provide programmatic management support. Work closely with clients, team members, and scientific / technical personnel from various industry, academic, and government agencies in the development of written work products for articles, proposals, and awards. Manage internally funded programs, track research related organizational metrics, evaluate submitted manuscripts, and assist in choosing reviewers. Conduct data collection on a full range of scientific and business group topics. Coordinate meetings and events whose output will include complex scientific studies, including events with NATO members. Some overseas travel required.
Job Duties:
- As a subject matter expert, coordinates work activities and writes and edits highly complex technical documents, including deliverables, manuals, reports, specifications and procedures in conformance with the Alion writing and documentation review process.
- Consult with all levels of customers and company management to determine most appropriate schedule of deliverables and objectives for large technical writing projects.
- Create, develop, plan, write and edit highly complex technical documents for publication. Edits documentation for style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to company guidelines.
- Primary interface with authors, other Technical Editor-Writers, word processing, graphics, and reproduction staff in the preparation and production of a variety of documents.
- Research highly complex technical concepts. Creates new technical documents that are complex in nature.
- Conduct interview with various technical staff to gather data for documentation.
- Lead large production efforts.
- Evaluate and provides feedback on draft documents and attends documentation reviews.
- Check classified documentation for proper security markings.
- Coordinate production of the final documentation (print to CD-ROM) with the authors and publication staff.
- Prepare the transmittal memorandums and coordinates the transmission of documentation to sponsors.
- Provide work leadership to less experienced Technical Editor-Writers.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in a STEM field, a B.S. in a STEM field is required. The ideal candidate will have a scientific background, strong writing skills, and a demonstrated experience in writing technical documents and scientific journal articles.
- Strong organizational skills are required, as well a demonstrated proficiency in time and project management, the ability to work with scientific staff, and good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a SECRET clearance.
