The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) in Sparta, Michigan has an innovative kiosk application system called MIBridges. The department is seeking interns to manage the lobby area and assist incoming clients with on-line applications and/or assist with these needs through an off site community partnership. The goal of this internship will be to provide the intern with the knowledge, skills and ability to provide quality customer service to Kent County's most vulnerable population by independently determining client need and assisting them in applying for the most beneficial state assistance programs such as Food Assistance, Medicaid, Child Development & Care, and other programs administered by the MDHHS. Some of the projects and responsibilities will include:
- Assisting Clients in completion of electronic application forms and explain program requirements.
- Becoming familiar with other agencies or service programs in order to refer clients as appropriate.
- Clearly receive and convey information and ideas that engage clients to help them understand and retain the message.
- Effectively meet client needs by building a productive relationship and taking responsibility for client satisfaction.
- Interpret and apply instructions and guidelines to resolve work concerns.
- Become familiar with agency programs and policies.
- Diffuse volatile situations while providing quality customer service to resistant clients.
- Navigate and troubleshoot on-line application system, MIBridges.
- Scan and upload documents.
- Interact professionally with all Michigan Department of Health and Human Services staff and clientele.

Students must be enrolled in a college or university at the time of the internship. This internship is open to all majors. However, bilingual applicants with a major in Social Work are preferred. Other preferred skills include:
- Ability to have a flexible schedule.
- Ability to communicate and work with the public.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Ability to manage lobby workflow.
- Technical capability to work with new online application system, MIBridges on a Kiosk machine.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Strong commitment to customer/client confidentiality.
