R&D Laboratory Technician
Must be local to Auburn, Midland, MI or surrounding area
Kelly Scientific has an opening for an R&D Lab Tech with our Fortune 500 customer in Midland, MI.
This role will be supporting Core R&D projects in the Chemical Science labs in the following capacity:
DUTIES
*Provide technical expertise to assist multidisciplinary teams in the development and screening of new materials and processes for a variety of application areas.
*Responsible for laboratory experiments and data collection, data management, safe laboratory operation, and proper handling and disposal of waste materials.
*Materials synthesis, analytical characterization and testing, as well as use of lab automation tools, equipment construction, operation, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Handling of hazardous chemicals may be involved.
*Tightening or opening tubing and reactor vessels and mechanical work anywhere from floor level to overhead.
*Occasional lifting of weights up to 20 pounds at shoulder level (e.g., filling 4 liter solvent bottles that supply analytical instruments or lifting a pieces of high throughput equipment in a glovebox), routine and repetitive pipetting and manipulation of small vials and quantities of materials, lifting and pouring batch reactor product, installation and removal of purification columns, wearing of PPE such as lab coat, gloves, goggles, face shields, aprons, steel-toed shoes and may require work in a glovebox or long periods of standing.
*This position is for a self-motivated person who is capable of working both independently with limited guidance from a supervisor, and also in a group environment as part of a larger project team
*Maintains and updates personal knowledge for proper use of equipment via manuals and job aids, logs maintenance activities and calibration results as required. Utilizes management of change (MOC) process and other safety processes for new or non-routine tasks and procedures.
*Actively participates in Dow safety programs and in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics. *Generates/maintains safety documentation around safe operation of equipment and related project chemistries.
REQUIREMENTS
-Strongly prefer an AAS or BS and prefer to have 2 or more years of education in materials science, engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
-Applicants must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
-Preferred candidates will have good mechanical skills, the ability to work with their hands, strong attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills.
-The successful candidate must be able to manage their time effectively and communicate results to their project team in a timely manner.
