Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning August 2019. The CMU Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for an opportunity to be instrumental in the shaping of our newly proposed dynamic and comprehensive program in Dance Studies. The candidate selected will be expected to be a significant partner in the development and delivery of a destination program.RESPONSIBILITIES Include:- Director of the proposed Dance Studies Program- Actively promote the Dance program and recruit new students- Teach in the Dance Minor and the proposed Dance Studies programs. Courses include: Dance Appreciation, Dance Composition, Dance Production, Dance Performance, Dance History, Dance Internship, Senior Capstone, Writing about Dance, Dance and Technology, Fundamental Movement, Performing Arts Administration, Screen Dance, Dance Composition for Music Theatre, Advanced Dance Composition, Methods of Teaching Dance, Dance Practicum, Field Study in Dance, Special Topics in Dance- Oversee curriculum: develop course content, outcomes, and evaluation systems for course offerings- Oversee assessment: provide assessment of course offerings and proposed Dance Studies program- Serve as Director/Producer of the University Theatre Dance Concert and the Dance Minor Showcase - Choreograph for Dance program productions - Choreograph for University Theatre musicals as needed- Maintain research, scholarly, and/or creative activity that leads to publication and/or performance via appropriate platforms. Practice-as-research and community-engaged research are welcome- Other responsibilities include advising majors and minors, participating in student recruitment, and supervising student projects and practicums - Department, College, and University Service required- Other duties as needed
1. An MFA or Phd in a related discipline required2. Ability to teach three of the following techniques offered (ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop) 3. Ability to teach creative, theoretical, and career courses within the proposed dance studies major 4. Experience in and/or interest in curriculum development5. Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing6. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
