You will lead your product development team through the Vehicle Development Process implementing your Chassis Steering System into production. You will control the definition of requirements, design, and development of a complex steering subsystem. A considerable amount of creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment.
- Lead PDT (product development team) for steering component/subsystem
- Release Designs into the GM system with excellence on-time
- Responsible for pre-production properties built and shipped test ready on-time
- Ensure Design Validation completed with excellence on-time
- Root cause and implement solutions to design problems
- Coordinates engineering activities with other functions (e.g. suppliers, supplier quality, purchasing) to ensure delivery of product meeting requirements and imperatives
- Validates design using analytical tools: FEA, modal, virtual builds and others at component level
- Prepares CTS (component technical specification) and SSTS (subsystem technical specifications)
- Develops, refines and finalizes criteria and typical sections using math data
- Develops SOR (system of requirements) for Chassis Steering subsystem
- Supports/Leads technical reviews with suppliers
- Participates in technical review in support of peers
- Defines ICD (interface control document) requirements for component and subsystems, negotiates and reaches agreement with interfacing components, works with other to resolve issues
- Performs appropriate studies/alternatives, and recommends program direction based on cost, mass, timing
- Reviews current product warranty data and addresses emerging issues.
- Stays abreast of new technology. Seeks new opportunities for GM product leadership.
- Translates lessons learned into best practices
- Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
- Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering such as manufacturing and supplier quality
- Travels as required
Basic Skills Required
- 5 years of engineering experience
- 2 years of steering engineering experience
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design
- Oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering: Mechanical or Electrical (required)
- This position requires legally operating a motor vehicle on a daily basis
