Network Engineer I
Position Summary
Candidate will design, configure and install network infrastructure including WiFi for the MSU community. Provide thoughtful and experience-based administration of large-scale network environments and generate service quality reports based on relevant criteria for a wide range of audiences. They will monitor to affirm that the network service is meeting service level agreements and co-construct improvement plans with Infrastructure Design teams as necessary. They will understand the diverse needs of campus clients and assist in the development and planing processes to build future revisions of the network infrastructure.
The candidate will maintain network performance by collaborating with users to identify challenges and improve user experience; provide superior customer service. It is expected that candidate will proactively nurture team members by sharing experience and perspective and seek to improve their personal skills by learning from existing staff and growing through training opportunities. Research, plan configure, install and document the MSU wired and wireless networks as a key member of the Network Engineering team. Develop and help grow trouble ticket, change management and workflow procedures to reduce impacts to the user community; Assist with the development an maintenance of network documentation.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Candidate will have three years of experience with enterprise network administration. Technical certifications including JNCIA or equivalent. Familiarity with ITIL fundamentals. Experience with change management and documentation. Ability to document proposed solutions, problems, and existing designs. Experience with Juniper and Cisco network environments including Cisco WiFi. Experience working in large public higher education institutions. Familiarity with MSU campus. Ability to excel in a team-based environment. Proven track record of excellent customer communication and service.
