I Accountability Objectives:
Provides professional nursing care within assigned practice site for primary care and specialty services in accordance
with physician's treatment plans for the comfort and well being of patients.
II Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.
A. Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent.
B. Licensure / Certification
Current registration to practice nursing in the state of Michigan.
Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
C Special Skill / Aptitudes
Ability to make professional nursing judgments in following the orders of physicians while working within
the guidelines of established nursing policies and procedures of assigned practice site.
Interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively instruct and provide education to patients and
maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of
hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
D. Experience
One year working experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred.
III Duties / Responsibilities:
1 Reviews patient's medical record to determine the purpose of patient's visit and sets up for physician by
arranging supplies, equipment and/or instruments. Provides follow through of physician orders and plan of
care and tracking of ancillary tests.
2 Prepares patients for examination or treatment by checking temperature, pulse, blood pressure and/or
respiration and positioning and draping patients. May assist physician by passing instruments during
procedures.
3 Administers ordered medications, treatments and immunizations and removes and applies bandages and
removes sutures.
4 Performs phlebotomy and laboratory on-site testing. According to policy and procedure records test results
and communicates test results to the physician.
5 Responsible for patient medical record (chart) documentation in accordance to policies and procedures.
6 Triage patients, follows established protocols. Assures appropriate advice is given to patients and Families.
Assures Managed Care Guidelines are adhered to in terms of patient access. As required, reinforces discharge
education with patients according to the direction of the physician.
7 Participates in staff meetings, education in-service programs and completes required continuous training and
education.
8 Implements quality control programs by reviewing and logging all quality controls and acting appropriately
when results read out of control limits. May be required to participate in proficiency testing.

V Working Conditions:
• Ability to stand/walk for up to 80%of work time. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and/or pull in order to
assist and/or support patients up to 100 pounds in turning, arising. Ability to push wheelchair patients up
to 300 pounds.
• Working in a patient care environment may result in exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous
substances.
• Weekend, holiday and evening work may be required.
• May be required to perform fireman's (two-way) carry of patient utilizing stairs.
