Assistant Director of Sewer

There is an opening for an Assistant Director of Sewer at Genesee County Water and Waste Services in Flint, MI. General statement of duties: Administers and directs the day-to-day operation, maintenance and repair of the Division’s Sanitary Sewer Department which includes: the Sanitary Sewer Collection system (including the pump stations) and three Wastewater Treatment Plants (including Lab and IPP). Is responsible for assuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations including related public health and safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license and qualify to drive a Division vehicle in compliance with the Division Driver Policy
- Ten or more years of related public utility operations and maintenance or administration experience including supervisory responsibilities.
- Supervisory skills to effectively manage the administration of assigned function(s).
- Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work productively and effectively communicate (orally and in written form) with all levels of staff (including highly skilled, technical employees), vendors, engineering firms, contractors, municipal customers, and regulatory or governmental agencies. The incumbent is also required to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner.
- Analytical ability and mathematical aptitude to identify appropriate course(s) of action to correct a variety of complex structural design, operational, and process issues in a cost-effective and timely manner.
- Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation.
- Computer skills necessary to perform assigned tasks.
Preferred but not required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration or related area.
- Current State of Michigan Professional Engineer license.
- Current EGLE Class S1 or F1 water certificate (for Water Department)
- Current EGLE A Wastewater license (for Sanitary Sewer Department)

Is responsible for assuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations including related public health and safety requirements
