Responsibilities include:
- Performs daily assessments on clients regarding their substance use disorder, mental health illness and any other medical concerns that may arise.
- Performs daily vital sign assessments.
- Communicates client concerns to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) on a daily basis. This includes but is not limited to: acute withdrawal symptoms, medication effectiveness, side effects and/or abnormal vital signs.
- Completes new client medical pre-screens, intakes and obtaining appropriate orders from NP.
- Submits e-prescriptions as needed for all clients in all levels of care.
- Educates clients and staff on safe medication administration and management.
- Utilizes an electronic medical record (EMR) for all documentation.
- Attends mandatory monthly nursing meetings for client care continuity, education and implementing new processes.
- At all times, observe and respect clients’ individual rights, confidentiality and adhere to Sanford House’s personnel code of ethics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current license in Michigan or
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with current license in Michigan
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, mental health illnesses and associated treatments.
- Substance withdrawal assessment skills.
- Communication skills, self-motivation, organizational skills, critical thinking and good decision-making abilities.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality on all client records and business-related records, as required under HIPAA guidelines.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as typing for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to clearly express and exchange ideas by means of spoken words to impart oral information to employees or others accurately or quickly, engaging in sometimes lengthy conversations or presentations.
- Capable of monitoring the facility and grounds, including the ability to ambulate up and down stairs.
- Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands.
- Must be able to perceive sound by ear to interpret oral information from employees or others accurately or quickly.
- Work will be performed in an office environment with fluctuating temperatures.
