Job Description Summary
The Pavlis Honors College (PHC) seeks a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual to join the college as a Pavlis Honors Pathway Specialist. The person in this position will work to enhance the Honors Pathway program through curricular efforts that include instruction, advising students, and developing and assessing the curriculum. The curriculum for the Honors Pathway program is based on experiential learning and reflection; we seek to mentor students in personal growth and development through learning partnerships. Participation in the planning and implementation of college events/activities for student recruitment and other college efforts will also be part of day to day activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
1. Instruction of undergraduate Honors (HON) Pathway courses (HON1150, HON2150, HON3150, and HON4150, all 1-credit courses) as needed; typically, multiple sections of one or two courses each semester.
2. Component advising for one or two of the four Honors Pathway components: an immersion experience, an academic enhancement, an Honors project, and a leadership/mentorship experience.
3. Assessment of student achievement of Honors abilities, as imparted by Pathway courses and components, with the objective of continuous Pathway improvement.
4. Curriculum development for the Honors Pathway, including courses and components, as guided by assessment and the Pathway Curriculum Committee, and participation on the Pathway Curriculum Committee.
5. Assistance in the planning for, and implementation of, Pavlis Honors College events and activities, including (but not limited to) those for student recruitment to the Pathway and for student residents of the Pavlis Honors Living Learning Community (LLC).
6. Other duties as assigned
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
* A master's degree or equivalent education and experience.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
* Experience with teaching or facilitating small- to medium-sized groups.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
* A master's degree in education or in a liberal arts discipline.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
* Excellent communication skills.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Exemplary interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
* Ability to self-motivate, pay attention to details, apply sound judgment, work autonomously, and work as part of a team.
* Ability to use (or quickly learn to use) course management software (e.g. Canvas).
* Ability to use (or quickly learn to use) typical classroom technology (e.g., computer projection system, document camera, audio/visual system, lecture-capture technology).
* Computer skills needed to teach, to manage workload, and to carry out job duties in a timely manner.
* Empathy and support for diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and sense of belonging.
* Ability to foster a culture of respect and safety in the college work environment.
* Ability to engage in and direct collaborative efforts.
