Accountable for planning, organizing, and managing the activities of the Quality Control Department to ensure product conformance to customer specifications in the most effective, economical manner. This is a hands on manager position.
The Quality Manager establishes rapport and works with all departments to maintain clear communication of new product developments including appropriate process control techniques, advance quality planning functions and management of systems and procedures for Michigan Spring & Stamping's products. This position is responsible for the overall coordination of the quality-related activities in the plant.
Quality Management System-
Assures compliance and maintenance of the registered quality systems of the Company (currently TS16949 and ISO14001).
Acts as the Management Representative for Michigan Spring and Stamping's registered quality systems.
Insures that external and internal audits are conducted according to schedule and that non-conformances are corrected in an effective and timely fashion.
Responsible for adherence and periodic review and updates to the Administrator Procedures and Quality Assurance Manual.
Customer Concerns and Internal Quality Non-Conformance Resolution
Advises Sales Department on technical matters regarding such concerns and works with customer representatives to solve problems relative to concerns
Champions the effective resolution of customer and internal quality concerns.
Conducts and/or manages studies to determine cause, effect and corrective measures required to remedy deviations impairing desirable standards of quality.
In conjunction with Engineering and Manufacturing personnel, resolves problems relative to products designs, specifications, materials, tooling and production operations affecting quality. Effective resolution focuses on assuring permanent correction of customer found discrepancies within the customer required time frame and with minimal cost.
Tracks and reports customer complaints, PPM and response timeliness. Maintains charts, graphs and statistical records having to do with the quality, nature and causes of defects.
Product/Process/ Continuous Improvement-
Actively works to identify product and systemic problems and recommends quality improvement programs that will provide permanent, corrective action to these quality problems and reduce cost. Problems may be related to current customers, internal and supplier issues as well as potential problems or weaknesses.
Formulates quality control programs involving the development and design of inspection instruments and devices, applications, methods and techniques.
Maintains process control methods, inspection techniques, and corresponding quality systems for use by company departments in their daily operations.
Recommends Statistical Process Control techniques that will improve process capability and part quality.
Recommends gages, test equipment, inspection procedures, and methods to minimize quality costs and improve quality through prevention of defects.
Customer compliance-
Communicates customer requirements throughout Michigan Spring and Stamping ensuring that the Companies systems are in compliance and initiates actions when required.
Review new product specifications and determine process assurance procedures necessary to meet new specifications.
Engineering Change Notices-
Implements engineering changes, both customer and internally driven.
Revises pertinent quality documents and gages, as necessary.
Production Part Approval Process-
Conducts measurement and capability studies to ensure product and process conformance.
Assembles customer requested documents and submits for approval.
Follows up with customer to resolve issues and obtain approval.
Supplier Development-
Works with suppliers to resolve product problems and assure compliance with Michigan Spring and Stamping requirements.
Tracks supplier issues and reports quality performance.
Develops and implements systems, procedures, methods and controls to ensure purchased materials, services, and final products conform to quality standards.
Advanced Quality Planning-
Assists with quality department implementation of new parts.
Defines manufacturing and quality audit plans to insure product integrity.
Generates appropriate documents (Flow, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC charts, logsheets, etc.).
Designs and procures gages necessary to conduct audits.
Personnel Management -
Assists with maintaining satisfaction of the department requirements in the areas of staffing, orientation, training, communications and compliance with Company policies and practices.
Conducts training sessions to keep department personnel informed on procedures, methods, use of equipment and other quality control techniques.
Administers work rules, regulations and when necessary, needed disciplinary actions.
Appraises employee performance and recommend change of status and wage adjustments.
Other-
Through contact with professional societies, educations institutions and through perusal of technical papers, test books, periodicals, etc., keep abreast of new developments germane to the quality control related functions.
Assists with other quality or company-wide initiatives, as requested.
Formulate and coordinate product quality objectives with production procedures to obtain economic optimum product liability.
Prepares, coordinates, recommends, and administer departmental expenses and capital budgets.
Recommends gages, test equipment, inspection procedures, and methods to minimize quality costs and improve quality through prevention of defects.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Quality Engineering or related field. Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
Five to eight years direct experience in quality control management, preferably in a spring environment.
Experience in Automotive industry a plus.
