Position Title: Early Childhood Caregiver — Infant Room
Rate of Pay: $12.48 per hour

Purpose of the Position
To successfully provide children with a nurturing, safe, and healthy environment while educating staff and parents through the developmental milestones.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.

Knowledgeable in the Developmental Milestones from birth through 4 years old.

Knowledgeable in the Michigan Department of Education Early Childhood Standards.

Group children with their primary caregiver.
-
Inform office when supplies are needed (art, sensory, gloves, wipes, cleaning supplies).

Oversee day-to-day operations of the classroom.
-
Communicate with all parents on the development of their child.
-
Ensure the room is equipped with age-appropriate equipment and organized for quality child development.

Develop weekly age-appropriate lesson plans including sensory, stories/music, art, science, math, and motor activities.
-
Post allergy information.
-
Post current list of infant formula/breast milk types.
-
Oversee all caregivers and ensure the best interests of all children are met.
-
Follow the BCPS Early Childhood Centers Employee Handbook.
-
Follow Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers.
-
Maintain knowledge of BCPS Early Childhood Program Guide and Health Policies and share with staff/parents.

Maintain current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
-
Follow OSHA blood-borne pathogen and diapering procedures.
-
Participate in mandatory continuing education and staff meetings.
-
Know and routinely practice all emergency procedures.
-
Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to meet children’s needs.

Maintain child-friendly, respectful communication.
-
Maintain professional attitude and relationships on the job.

Contribute to joint team responsibilities.

Interact positively with children at their level.
-
Greet parents, children, visitors, and staff pleasantly and note any relevant information.

Maintain open communication with parents to support consistency.

Maintain communication with Facilitator/Early Childhood Director/Assistant Facilitator.

Share ideas and accept suggestions to strengthen the program.

Respond consistently to infant needs for food or comfort to build trust.

Praise infants and support developing competence.

Respect infant curiosity while helping ensure gentle interactions.

Send daily notes home regarding each child’s day.

Serve as primary caregiver for three children, meeting all daily care needs including feeding, sleeping, diapering, and developmental support.

Model language through conversation, singing, and reading.
-
Encourage brain development through sensory exploration, movement, and interaction.
-
View each child as a unique individual and incorporate their needs into routines.
-
Maintain full awareness of children at all times.
-
Educate staff on weekly lesson plans.
-
Assist with room organization and cleanliness.
-
Record feeding, diapering, medication, and sleep information for children under age 1.
-
Place mouthed toys in the dirty-toy bin.
-
Ensure infants sleep on their backs in cribs only (safe-sleep compliant).
-
Clean high chairs using the three-step process; sweep floors after meals; deep-clean weekly.

Rotate play activities (floor play, walks, rocking, belly time, etc.).

Enjoy working with children.
Dimensions of Position
Supervise children and personnel assigned to the Infant Room under the guidance of the Center Administrator.

Education and/or Experience

Meet State of Michigan minimums for Lead Caregiver.

Must be at least 19 years old.
-
High school diploma or GED.
-
Meet Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers education requirements.
-
Be of responsible character and suitable to meet children’s needs.
-
Have a current physical and TB test.
-
Must have a genuine love for children.
