Summary This internal job announcement is for a Registered Nurse - Podiatry Clinic at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited: Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations. Provides both individual and disease based case management to patients who have chronic health conditions involving foot care and may include Specialty Services including but not limited to Pulmonology, Cardiology, Nephrology and Urology. Responsible for all incoming calls from Podiatry patients and is the consult manager for all in-patient and inter-facility consults for Podiatry. Screens all inpatients and outpatients requesting podiatry services for both Saginaw VAMC and community care consults. Responsible for writing and updating all Podiatry Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), internal podiatry nursing clinic manual, and competencies. The nurse is a member of the Preventing Amputation in Veterans Everywhere (PAVE) Committee and responsible for completing yearly PAVE report for Veterans Administration Central Office (VACO) Responsible for Federal Drug Administration (FDA) documentation of all graft materials used, and tracking patients using Lymphapress and Podiatric SmartMat. Liaison between Podiatric SmartMat Rep and Podiatrist, including providing follow-up when changes are detected to patient feet from the device, notifying the providers and ensure proper treatment is followed through. Gathers information for presentation to the New Product Committee when new equipment is requested by provider. Checks in and out patients, provides consults and care to CLC and Palliative Care Units for foot and nail care. Administers flu vaccines to patients as needed, and orders supplies (shoes, socks, inserts and canes) for Podiatry patients. Communicates all urgent tests results, assess and treat urgent walk-in's, and process telephone calls for internal and community care for established patients. This position will support any surgical clinic (Urology, Wound, Ortho, or GYN) and can be cross trained to the surgery department when census is low in the Podiatry clinic. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program.
