Role Description:
ORGANIC CHEMISTRY PROCESS INTERN
Location: Kalamazoo, MI
Internship Summary:
The VMRD group is part of the Zoetis Pharmaceutical Laboratory Sciences side of business and is responsible for supporting early drug discovery, process development and manufacturing.The internship involves planning, setup and conducting organic reactions in a laboratory setting to synthesize new compounds that may be biologically active. The intern will be expected to learn and apply various analytical techniques, such as NMR, LCMS, HPLC to monitor reactions and characterize newly synthesized compounds. Good communication skills are highly desirable. Depending on the success of the project, the results will be communicated in a scientific poster (Zoetis Science Symposium) and/or communication in a scientific journal.
Internship Job Duties:
Conduct organic synthesis in a laboratory setting.
Collect and document experimental results, including analytical data, in a laboratory notebook
Communicate results to the laboratory supervisor
Perform literature searches as needed
Prepare a final research report based on results.
Internship Qualifications:
BS Student in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field
Organic Chemistry I&II and corresponding labs
Analytical Chemistry course/lab; exposure to modern analytical techniques (NMR, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC)
Good laboratory notebook practices
Good oral and written communication skills and be able to work in a team environment

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Associate-level degree: $16.00 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $22.00 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $32.50 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $36.00 per hour
