ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
IMPACT AND OPPORTUNITY
Gentherm is expanding its business portfolio beyond the traditional automotive sector and into new markets. To support this strategic growth, the Advanced Engineering department is seeking an electrical engineer with 5+ years of hands-on experience in both automotive and consumer goods / electronics domains. You will lead and contribute to the design, development, validation, and certification of electro-mechanical systems for products used across these markets. You will play a critical role from concept through production, working cross-functionally to deliver robust, compliant, and manufacturable solutions.
The role will focus on electro-mechanical integration of thermal and pneumatic comfort systems into products across diverse industries, including automotive seating, commercial trucks, two-wheelers, and medical applications. While our portfolio is broad, our core mission remains consistent: to create products that positively impact people. Whether through enhancing comfort or delivering measurable health benefits, our goal is to provide best-in-class user experiences and outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the design and development of consumer-grade embedded electronics and subsystems for automotive aftermarket, including control electronics, sensing, and power interfaces.
Architect control systems for thermal, pneumatic, and motion-based electro-mechanical assemblies. Create and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, system block diagrams, for seamless electrical-mechanical integration.
Design and validate embedded firmware (C/C++/RUST/RTOS), drivers, and real-time control algorithms (e.g., PID loops) for embedded microcontrollers and IoT connectivity
Program and troubleshoot embedded microcontrollers at board level platforms to support robust system functionality.
Create schematic and complex multi-layer PCB layouts optimized for EMC, manufacturability (DFM) and testability (DFT) using Altium Designer.
Perform PCB design, layout reviews, and signal/power integrity analysis in collaboration with layout engineers.
Execute design validation testing including thermal, electrical, EMC/EMI, and reliability testing for consumer compliance standards. Conduct prototype builds, debugging, and reliability testing to ensure product performance and compliance.
Drive UL, FCC, CE, IEC, EMC certifications for consumer products; exposure to automotive standards (ISO/IATF/SAE) is advantageous. Prepare and maintain design specifications, test plans, validation reports, and compliant design history files.
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, FMEA, DVP&R, and reliability studies to ensure safety and robustness of critical systems.
Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, manufacturing, quality, and R&D teams to resolve design challenges and ensure project requirements are met.
Troubleshoot field and production issues, driving root cause analysis and implement improvements in efficiency, responsiveness, and cost.
Support Agile and stage-gate development processes, tracking project progress and managing technical risks.
Apply cost-optimized design thinking to ensure performance, reliability, and market competitiveness.
Support Agile development frameworks (Jira, Confluence) for sprint-based delivery and milestone tracking.
